This movie follows the Little family who have one son. When they decide to adopt another son, they go to an orphanage where they get more than they bargained for in a small mouse named Stuart, (voiced by Michael J. Fox,) As the couple are won over by his charm and cuteness, they decide to adopt him. While the couple is very welcoming to Stuart, their son George, (voiced by Jonathan Lipnicki,) isn’t as welcoming at first as he wants a big brother with whom he can play catch with, toss a frisbee around,) Etc. However, the family cat, Snowbell, (voiced by Nathan Lane,) is more than happy to welcome Stuart over for dinner, as the main course. Stuart and Snowbell are at odds throughout the film until a group of alley cats begin working in cahoots with Snowbell to have Stuart eaten for a snack. However, in the time it has taken for the alley cats to form a plan to snatch Stuart, Snowbell has began to take a liking to him and must stop the plan from being made to save him. Will Snowbell be able to save Stuart from the vicious alley cats looking to enjoy him as lunch?
This movie presents the proverbial cat vs mouse rivalry. However, I think near the end of the film, Snowbell has a change of heart and he realizes that Stuart means a lot to the family. In another scene, Stuart is picked up at the door by two mice claiming to be his biological parents. It is there that he realizes that he is indeed a Little. Therefore, I think this movie is about realizing who your real family is and that you indeed don’t have to be blood or even the same species to be family. It shows the lengths that Snowbell and the Little family will go to save one of their own….whether he is a mouse or not.
I would definitely recommend this movie to any new generations of children and even the old generations of children who may have already seen it.
It’s a really fun and heartwarming film
