Movie Review: Saving Silverman (2001) seen on DVD
Comedy: some scenes may be unsuitable for young children: sexual content, language, mature themes
I was a big fan of this movie. My favourite character was J.D. (played by Jack Black,) as he was an actor I grew up with in my childhood. I’ve seen him in movies such as “School of Rock,” (2003,) “The Cable Guy,” (1996) and just recently “Kung Fu Panda 4.” I think he played this role really well. However, my all time favourite character in this movie was Judith, (played by Amanda Peet.) She keeps me wanting to view this movie more times despite the thousands of movies I own in my DVD collection. I’m going to make this real simple and say she is attractive and she played her role in the movie as well as I would like my girlfriend to play her role in my life if I ever get one. She is the typicak dominatrix woman who tells Darren, (played by Jason Biggs,) what to do and when to do it as well as who he can hang our with etc. My one biggest criticism of this movie is that Darren never really allowed himself to separate from his friends until the end of the movie. I would have done things a lot differently if Judith was my girlfriend at that time. I also believe that he ended up with the wrong girl at the end and I believe the ending would have been better if Darren somehow ended up with Judith either by his friends putting their dislike towards her aside in support of their friend’s decision or turning on them all together and siding with her thus becoming as much of a villain as she was for the whole movie. By the end of the film, Darren ends up with a girl named Sandy. I have to be honest. I’ve always hated that name in general and that actress was the less attractive one between her and Judith.
In general, I have always felt like tv, movies, and music that has been produced in the current year, (2024) has really gotten stale and is no good. I’ve have always been a fan of movies, tv shows and music from my childhood like this one. I was 11 years old when this film was released. This fact is made to be true as I notice Judith’s character has gotten much older and isn’t as attractive as she was in the film. Having said that, if you’re in the mood for nostalgia, I would give this movie a try. I think the cast was great and the storyline was great at well.
Movie rating: 10 out of 10. As always, superb acting from Jack Black who will always stand out as one of my favourite actors…. but of course, the gem behind this movie was Judith. Honestly I wish I could have been lucky enough to have seen this movie upon it’s release.
