Movie Review: Rugrats in Paris: The Movie (2000)

Movie Review: Rugrats in Paris: The Movie (2000) seen on videocassette

Comedy: some scenes may be unsuitable for young children, mature themes, cartoon violence and brief nudity

This movie is the sequel to the 1998 film “The Rugrats movie” which sees the gang take a trip to Paris after one of Stu’s breaks down while in use in Paris, forcing Stu to travel with the family to fix it.

One night, Stu gets a phone call while he is half asleep from someone who has invested in his latest invention, (which is something to do with Reptar but I don’t know what it is.) He is tasked to travel to Paris with the gang as he attempts to fix it, presumably with his job on the line if he fails.

Meanwhile early on the film, Chuckie is shown to be heartbroken when he is at a party with his father and the D.J. implements a dance between all of the babies and their moms. As Chuckie does not have a mother, this upsets him and his father suggests that they go home. While at the party, his father becomes smitten with a woman named Kira who has a daughter named Kimi who is not part of the original group of Rugrats. When Kira shows interest in Chuckie, this sparks the idea of possible marriage between the two, thus giving Chuckie his new mommy.

Throughout the film, Chuckie is shown to be overjoyed at the idea of finally meeting his new mom and a musical number plays where Chuckie imagines what his mother would be like.

It is unclear to me what the main problem throughout this movie is but somehow the supposed wedding of Kira and Chaz is put in jeopardy and the gang must band together to ensure that it still happens. I remember there was another woman who is smitten with Chaz and somehow attempts to force him to marry her rather than Kira. Though I do not remember it vividly enough, I think the woman who plots to marry Chaz is hostile towards Chuckie where Kira is warm and loving towards him.

The end of the film shows that Chaz has been won over by Kira and the wedding takes place, hence Kira is now Chuckie’s new mommy.

I do remember that the as the credits roll for this film, there is a music video of “Who let the dogs out?” which is a song attached to the movie while a montage of certain scenes throughout the movie are shown.

I can honestly say that this has been the shortest review I’ve done since I started this. This is what happens when I don’t watch a movie before I review it, or if I only watch a movie once which was released years ago when I was a child and thus I cannot remember the main plot of it or the characters and in this movie’s case, even the main problem throughout. Having said that, I have seen this movie and it was good and I’ve written everything I know about it. I know the sub plot revolves around Chaz becoming smitten with a woman who is good to Chuckie but something happens which puts their impending wedding in jeopardy but I know that everything turns out well in the end. There’s certain characters whom I do not remember the name of throughout this movie as well as the roles of those characters, and even the reason why Stu is forced to go to Paris in the first place.

I have attempted to watch both Rugrats movies to be able to do a proper review of it but I was unable to do so as a result of the movie’s lack of availability on streaming services. For this reason, as I wanted to ensure I got a review done on what was a classic from my childhood, I had to go only with what I knew about the movie and that wasn’t much.

However, one thing I do know is that it was a good movie and I suppose I would recommend it if you were a fan of the Rugrats or for people who have children of that age.

Movie rating: 5 out of 10 for my lack of knowledge about this movie.
