Movie review: The King Tide (2024)

Movie Review: The King Tide: (2024) seen in theatres

Drama: Not recommended for young children; violence, coarse language and some graphic scenes.

This movie follows an infant baby who was thought to be deceased following nearly drowning in a lake while trapped underneath a boat on the water only to be rescued by people living in a village who discover she has some sort of powers. She may be the village’s last hope for survival.

The movie begins with a destroyed village following some sort of catastrophe, (presumably a bad storm.) After people living in the village, hear what appears to be a baby crying from inside the water, they scramble to save her only to find her trapped underneath a boat. The movie then fast forwards ten years later to find that the child name Isla has some sort of power, (though it is unclear from my perspective what that power is at first,) which she uses to help improve the village following the catastrophe that destroyed it in the first place, (another thing that is unclear to me about this film.) It is later revealed in the film that her powers were indeed healing powers, (which was what I assumed them to be,) after a little boy gets sick from eating poisonous berries and eventually dies before which Isla unsuccessfully attempts to heal him. As her parents believe her lack of power is because of the tragedy she just suffered, they attempt to get the people in the village to leave her alone until her powers are restored. From there, the rest of the movie is pretty much the people in the village talking about whether she should seek medical attention with the girl’s father disagreeing. At one point in the film, her powers are shown to be restored as she is able to cure cuts on the hands of each of her parents in her sleep. The debate then shifts to whether or not the village should find out that Isla’s powers are restored with her father wanting it to be kept a secret as he feels she cannot handle the stress of the village people constantly harassing her.

The end of the film shows that everybody except for Isla has been killed as she is seen walking through the village past the dead bodies of everybody else in the family including every member of her family and two police officers. The last scene shows Isla blankly staring in the ocean as the credits roll.

If I had anything positive to say about this movie, there wouldn’t be enough things to say to warrant even writing a review. The whole movie was confusing to understand, impossible to follow and I find that this movie shows too much of the old country with the houses looking as if they lived in the country and I also notice in one scene that Isla is watching “The Beverly Hillbillies,” which in itself is a tv show from the stone age. This movie also focuses way too much on the supporting characters rather than the main character who was supposed to be Isla. I had a similar problem with the movie “Abigail” where despite the name of the movie suggesting she would be the main focus, she had a very reduced role in the movie. While it is true that this movie was not named for that character, the previews suggest that she would be the main focus as it shows her excelling in what appears to be school. This gave me the impression that it may be something similar to the movie “Gifted” which follows a child who is very smart. Also, the father is very rude throughout the film and to be honest, at times I didn’t know whether he was the father or if it was another man in the movie, (both of whom I cannot remember their names.)

This movie would not be recommended to anyone as no one in the right mind would waste their money going to see it, (at least as far as I’m concerned.) However, I would not recommend my mother go and see this movie as the first scene shows Isla as an infant nearly drowning. As I have just become and uncle and my mother has just become a grandma, it would definitely hit too close to home for mom and maybe even Joseph who would thank god that Jacob is not in this movie.

What a stupid movie.

I guess if I had to choose a scene to be labelled a good part, it would be the end scene. I’m just realizing now that I’m surprised I was even able to give this much of a review considering how dumb this movie was.

There will be other ones that will be much better than this one.
