Movie Review: The Tigger movie (2000) seen in theatres and on DVD
Animation comedy: Suitable for all ages
The movie follows the crew from the Hundred Acre Wood, (Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, and Owl,) in the first film I have seen them in, (I don’t know if this was the first movie released,) which sees Tigger attempt to locate his family after a fight with the gang leaves him feeling lonely.
Early on in the film, Tigger is shown to be his usual joyful and playful self. After adopting a new type of bounce, (the name of which is too long and hard for me to remember,) he excitedly goes to find the rest of the gang to share it with them. He finds them in another part of the forest where the rest of the gang are struggling to help Eeyore after his house is destroyed by some kind of storm. Tigger attempts to resolve the situation by putting his new bounce to the test, hoping it will bring Eeyore’s house back to normal. Unfortunately, the bounce only makes the situation worse and Eeyore is left without a home. This results in an argument starting between some of characters who show disdain towards Tigger for exasperating the situation. Though he is apologetic for the accident, Rabbit angrily informs him to leave the rest of the gang alone and tells him they no longer want to be friends with him. Despite Kanga coming to Tigger’s defense and saying it was not his fault and that he was just trying to help, Tigger is overcome with sadness over the situation and departs from his normal joyful self and becomes sad. After leaving the group, he decides he wants to find his own family of Tiggers as he believes they will have something in common with him and therefore would always want to be friends with him no matter what as they are family. This sets the pace for the rest of the film as Tigger wanders the hundred acre wood after locating his family tree. As bad weather approaches and it becomes late at night, Tigger realizes he will never find his family and returns home. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang desperately search for him in an attempt to apologize for the situation earlier in the film. When they learn that he is trying to find his family, they decide to try and help him by disguising themselves as Tigger. Tigger is overjoyed when he believes he may have found his family only to be dismayed and heartbroken upon finding out it was just the gang disguised as members of his family. Despite Winnie explaining that they only wanted to help him, Tigger dismisses this as he begins to feel as if they were making fun of him. After confronting them, he leaves the house into the winter storm saying he will never come back, which forces the gang to try and rescue him as he comes face to face with an avalanche. The ending of this movie shows that Tigger, through a series of events, is saved by the gang who all live happily ever after, (though I do not remember how the movie ends. I just know that by the end, Tigger is seen having happily rejoined the gang.)
There is some history associated with us seeing this movie. It is the first film I saw in theatres where we were the only ones present for that viewing. As the credits roll, a somber song plays where the message is “no matter how far you are from your family, you’re never alone as long as you keep them in your heart while thinking of the people who really care for you in your time of need.
Though I didn’t have a problem with the movie itself, I took issue with it being played at rotary home while I was there for the weekend. As I had problems with homesickness when I used to go there, the emotional scenes in the movie forced me to call mom a second time, after just talking to her where she questioned why I kept calling her, (this sounds all too familiar in the present day.) After I told mom what was happening, they agreed to turn the movie off.
To me, this movie’s primary message is simple. It proves the point that you don’t have to look like family or be the same in any way to be family…..family is indeed who you can trust and who loves you.
Though this movie is available on Disney Plus, I opted not to watch it again before writing this review as I can remember that the emotional scenes in this movie were too much for me to handle as a kid, and would be too much for me to handle as an adult as I have really matured past the point of needing mom like I did back then, even as a 34 year old man. This problem has caused mom to annoyingly tell me to live my life, though I know deep down that she does appreciate the amount of time I spend trying to reach her each day.
All in all, it was a good movie that I would recommend
Movie rating 10 out of 10
