Movie Review: Hitman (2024)

Movie Review: Hitman (2024) seen in theatres

Action comedy, romance; not recommended for young children, coarse language, sexual content and dialogue, violence, and brief scenes of drug use

The movie follows a college professor named Gary Johnson, (played by Glen Powell,) who is selected to be a substitute hitman after one of the men is suspended for three months. His laid back lifestyle and soft demeanor is tested as he must do the unthinkable and murder people for money. Along the way, he meets an attractive woman named Madison who claims to be coming out of an abusive relationship. As he finds himself falling for her, he realizes that he must hide the fact that he is a hitman in order to secure her heart. He assumes an alias named Ron who has a back story that would fail to indicate that his profession is a hitman. However, this is tested when they leave a club together and run into Madison’s ex husband. As he tries to charge at her after a verbal exchange, Madison is shocked to find that Ron has a gun and is able to chase him off. Later in the film when her husband is found dead, Madison admits to Ron that she is the culprit forcing him to choose between his fake profession and the girl of his dreams.

I just noticed now that it’s really hard for me to write reviews on movies that I’ve either seen in theatres or have only seen once and could not follow it. Recently when I’ve gone to the theatre, I have had an unfriendly companion in a sore back that I incur every time I go from sitting in my wheelchair. This sore back prevents me from properly following the movie and hence I cannot go as much into detail on it as I would like. This is why my last couple of reviews have been shorter.

However, from what I was able to understand about this film, it is the perfect mix of action and romance. I also really enjoyed the way Madison spoke to Ron or Gary, (whatever name he was going by,) throughout the film as she always spoke seductively to him.

Anyway, obviously my favourite parts in this movie were the intense sexual scenes. I have been know to enjoy that type of thing. While other parts of the movie were hard to follow, I had no problem following those parts. As a matter of fact, it was those scenes in the trailer that drew me to this movie in the first place. I’m a single guy as of the time of this writing and watching those types of movies gives me hope that one day I will find myself a girlfriend, though I have not had much luck in that department in my 34 years. I’m hoping one day, it will come soon though.

I would recommend this movie.

Movie rating 9 out of 10.

If this movie was a full on romantic movie, I would have given it a perfect score as I feel like the romantic scenes were much more intense than the action sequences.
