Movie Review: Beetlejuice (2024) seen in theatres
Comedy, horror, sci-fi; some scenes may be unsuitable for young children, frightening scenes, minor scenes of romance, including scenes which discuss death, and brief violence
Michael Keaton stars as the man whose name nobody dares mention three times in a row in a movie with an unknown plot where he plays a character similar to that of the joker complete with white makeup and a green wig.
As mentioned above, the plot of this movie was unknown to me throughout which presents a challenge for me in trying to find standout scenes. I found it hard to figure out if he was the hero or the villain throughout the movie as there were some scenes in which he presented himself as a hero. However, I think towards the end his true colors were shown as he was seen as the villain. This movie featured horror sequences that would be admired by little children and features sequences parodying “The Addams Family,” and it actually featured a villainous woman who looks identical to Morticia Addams from the Addams family. There is also a couple of scenes which depict a human hand that moves around on it own similar to “Thing” from the Addams family as well. As this is something I’m sure most children would enjoy, I have to give this movie props.
Another thing I have to give this movie props for is it’s musical numbers. Throughout the movie, there were numerous musical numbers which are suitable for children and even myself as a 34 year old man couldn’t help but be thrilled by this. I really feel like it toned down the violent and scary aspect of the movie and made it suitable for all ages.
Having said that, I don’t understand why Michael Keaton’s character in this movie, (who played Beetlejuice,) didn’t have more scenes in this movie especially given the fact that he was a main character. After seeing the trailer for this movie, I felt the plot would be different; with Jenna Ortega’s character having been bullied throughout until she meets Beetlejuice and he helps her with her self esteem issues while trying to hide their friendship from her family as she would know nobody would believe her.
Speaking of Jenna Ortega, I first saw her in the movie “Yes Day.” She didn’t disappoint me then despite the fact that there is a scene in that movie involving birds and I’m ornithophobic. Most people would have thought that I wouldn’t be able to watch that movie because of this and normally, they would be right but Jenna Ortega’s presence in that movie gave it a perfect score, (the blog for this film was already completed.) Ok so I’m going to be honest. She’s so hot. If I had a girlfriend, I would want her to look just like Jenna Ortega. I would even go as far as to call her my favourite actress. I don’t want her money. I don’t care about her acting but any movie where she is involved earns a perfect score whether it’s this movie or a movie where birds gain the ability to speak and voice their desire to eat me. If she is in a movie, it gets a perfect score and this one is no exception. I would definitely recommend this movie.
