Movie Review: The Tutor (2023) seen on Netflix
Thriller/drama: not recommended for young children; coarse language, mature themes, brief sexuality, and violence
This movie follows a tutor who is assigned to tutor a billionaire’s son only to be accused of murdering the boy’s mother
At first, this movie seemed like it would be bland. I didn’t know much about it. I only had the brief description that Netflix gives as far as knowing what it’s about. I figured it would follow the same trope as many other movies I’ve seen, with an unsuspecting person providing a service/doing a job for a family only for the family to trap him in the house and attempt to kill him. These types of movies tend to all end in the same way with the villain either getting arrested or killed at the end after accusing the hero of something he/she did wrong which usually results in the hero facing potential consequences for his/her actions near the end of the film only for the truth to eventually be revealed and the villain gets his/her comeuppance by the end with the hero returning to their normal life. This doesn’t happen in all movies I’ve seen as there are some movies where the villain fails to get his/her comeuppance and is able to live life normally despite all the crimes he/she committed throughout the film until the very end. This movie nearly once again followed that same formula, this time with the boy accusing the guy of killing his mother at one point when he was a child. Of course, he denies the accusations which at first seems like the only logical answer especially given the fact that he had never met or knew this person prior to the events of the film. Personally, I figured there was no way he could have did it thus making this plot a complete waste of time. However, in a shocking turn of events, he admits to his wife that he did murder the boy’s mother thus having been the villain the whole time. It turns out the the boy should have been the hero of this film the entire time as the supposed hero of this film showed his true colors and it was the boy who needed help. While this otherwise boring, bland and predictable movie was no good, I do have to give this film credit for adding in a plot twist that I’m sure no one would have expected. However, this is a minor win for this movie and unfortunately it does not effect this movie’s overall rating as it was every bit as boring and predictable as it started out to be. If I gave this movie a review any higher than 0, it would be a .5 out of 10. However, I would rather round off as it doesn’t make sense to me to just put half a point. Therefore, this is yet another movie with a negative review. Hopefully soon, I will be able to start watching movies that I actually have something good to say about it and thus, I can rate it higher than 0 but for now, my decision stands.
Movie rating: 0 out of 10
