Movie Review: The Perfect Guy (2015) seen in theatres, on Netflix and on DVD
Thriller; not recommended for young children; violence, coarse language, nudity, sexuality, some graphic and disturbing images, minor scene of vandalism, scenes which imply animal crulety
This movie follows a woman who enters a relationship with a tech savvy man after ending her first relationship. At first he appears to be charming but soon shows her a dark side which causes her to end the relationship with him. He then grows obsessed with her and begins stalking her as well as everyone she loves.
This is one of those movies that I prefer to watch with the lights off. Most people who know me would assume that this is because of the implied amount of sex in the movie. However, this is not the case. As a matter of fact, for a movie that is titled “The Perfect Guy,” I don’t think there was as much of that as there should have been. The big takeaway where this movie is concerned is the violence that is shown after the break up. I know a lot of people would disagree with me but honestly, I don’t see how stalking can be considered a criminal offense. At the end of the day, all the person who is doing the stalking really wants is to be friends/be in a relationship with the person they are stalking. I don’t think they would do that for any other reason. Throughout my life, I’ve been accused, (perhaps sarcastically and jokingly,) of stalking my mother due to the amount of times I have called her in one day despite her telling me she is busy, that she will return my call when she’s done work, ETC. Though I have taken mild offense to being accused of this, I was only doing it to spend more time with her and at my age, she should be happy with all the time i want to spend with her. The same type of problem is explored in this film as I have dealt with in my life. The only difference is that in my case, it’s my mother who I want to be with and not a woman who I’m sexually attracted to. All that he really wanted was to love her and show how much she meant to him but she didn’t appreciate it. For my part, I’ve never been stalked by a girl as much as he stalked her in this movie but I wish I was. He wasn’t trying to hurt her. He was trying to show her that he would so anything for her. Having said all of this, I don’t know that I would ever go as far as he did in stalking her, including assaulting random people just for speaking to her and killing her boyfriend but it has to be admitted that his heart was in the right place in doing what he did. As far as I’m concerned, if stalking is going to be illegal, then it should also be illegal to profess your love to anyone and to take as many steps as you need to take in order to come out on top and show that all you want is to be loved. In my mind, this movie pretty much exists due to the woman believing that the man is stalking her despite what his true intentions are…..to be her husband. Also, you cannot tell me that she didn’t love him at all in this movie. Towards the beginning, she was showing signs of loving him only to break up with him for doing what believe is his job and assaulting someone he thought was making a move on her. If a girl ever did that on my behalf, I would be appreciative of her efforts especially since she would likely be the last real girlfriend I would ever have given my age and overall health and appearance. This is assuming I ever get one.
On a different note, there are multiple people whom some of the actors remind me of in this film, either by physical appearance or in voice but I can’t figure out who they remind me of. I was able to pin point exactly who when I first saw this movie in theatres back in 2015 but I can’t remember now. These people may not even be people I know personally and may just be wrestlers, other actors, ETC. As I was watching this film, I asked myself, “This guy reminds me of someone but who? Is he a person I know or someone from tv?” I just can’t seem to put my finger on who some of these characters remind me of but it’s not important. Also, it will not effect the rating of this movie. I thought it was a really good movie from start to finish. It is easily one that I would watch again.
