Movie Review: Smile 2 (2024)

Movie Review: Smile 2 (2024) seen in theatres

Horror; not recommended for young children; violence, gory scenes, mild drug use, some medical images, graphic images, including scenes which depict death and suicide

This movie follows a female rock star who begins to experience violent and disturbing hallucinations after witnessing the death of her best friend.

I can honestly say I’m glad to be back reviewing movies again. I put myself on a hiatus for a few days as I was dealing with some less than desirable occurrences in my personal life which created a situation where I was not in the right frame of mind to review movies. That’s about as much good news as I have to report in this review as there was absolutely nothing good about this movie. Recently, I’ve seen some horror movies that live up to their name and leave me on the edge of my seat where most others do not. I find the attempts that some movies take to be scary are way too predictable and don’t scare me at all. However, this movie was one that I was just waiting for it to end as some of the scenes were so gruesome and violent that I couldn’t even watch and had to cover my eyes. There was also no characters in the movie that could be labelled as normal. All of the characters in this movie had a screw loose in terms of their personality and their actions at one point or another throughout this film. This movie is also notable for having numerous jump scares throughout the movie. As a rule, my friend Chris is into these types of movies. He likes horror movies that depict certain villains and those which are considered to be slasher films. This is one thing we do not have in common as I’m more of a rom com fan rather than a horror movie fan. However, I knew it was bad the minute I looked over at him in the seat next to me and saw that he was scared of some of the scenes. As I was able to read his body language throughout, I could tell that certain scenes even angered him. This is also one of those occasions where mom knows best. She warned me not to see this movie citing the fact that it could be too scary and violent and gruesome. However, as I had seen the first movie, I didn’t think it would be that bad. She suggested that we go see a different movie but I had my heart set on seeing this one. I don’t know if she’s seen the movie before or maybe has seen the preview but somehow she knew that this movie would be too scary. This movie caused both Chris and I to agree that we would analyze movies before deciding if we see them in theatres especially with the rising cost of concession items, (which was the main reason why I did not want to walk out despite contemplating doing so throughout.)

The nice thing about this movie not having a lot of good points to review is that maybe now I will have time to watch another movie this evening and maybe write a review on that one. For those of you who don’t know, the length of each movie review I do usually depends on the amount of standout scenes/actors in whatever movie it is, ETC. The more good points there are, the longer a review is. Well since this movie lacked as far as good or appropriate scenes, it will not take long to review.

This movie SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED BY ANYONE. I’m sorry but I really don’t have anything good to say about it and as everybody knows by now, this usually results in a poor rating. This movie is no different. It was a waste of a movie to view as I couldn’t wait for it to be over. At least it is now but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

Movie rating: 0 out of 10

Next movie review: TBD although something on a streaming service
