Movie Review: A Merry Friggin Christmas (2014)

Movie Review: A Merry Friggin Christmas (2014) seen on DVD

Comedy/Drama: not recommended for young children; coarse language, minor scenes which depict drug use, scenes which partially discuss mental conditions, presumed violence throughout

This movie follows a man who is forced to spend the holidays with members of his family whom he dislikes only to realize that he left his young son’s Christmas presents back at his home and takes a long journey back with one of his family members, (played by Robin Williams,) in order to retrieve them on Christmas Eve hoping to return with them in tow by the time his young son wakes up Christmas morning. He goes to this length to ensure that Christmas is not spoiled for his son.

This movie was unfortunately released at a time where being able to sit and watch movies from start to finish is challenging. These days, anytime I watch a movie, I’m distracted by the craziness that is my whole life, (I know a lot of people would disagree with this assumption of how my life is.) However, movies produced in the 2010’s have always been hard for me to follow but this is one of the ones that I know northing about and yet I’m still able to formulate a blog just on how much I know one actor in particular. This is of course Robin Williams. However, I couldn’t even tell you if the people the guy spends Christmas with are his own parents or his in laws. I know he doesn’t get along with him. There are a lot of other children and adults who are all supposedly related to the man in this movie but I don’t know what relation they are to him and as for what actually happens in the movie, (if there was violence or any sort of drug use,) ETC, this has gone over my head as I have physically been in front of the tv when the movie was playing but could not for the life of me understand it even enough to give my opinion on it. You would think this is the kind of movie I would not yet be able to review since I know nothing about it which makes it appear as if I’ve never seen it. Every time I’ve seen this movie, I’ve only seen it and that’s it. Certain things had been distracting me as I tried to watch it the first two times, (I’m pretty sure that’s how many times I’ve attempted to watch it,) to a point where I have seen the actors on the screen, I know how much they hate each other and that’s it. I don’t even have a solid opinion on this movie. Having said that, I know that it does star Robin Williams and since he was relevant at a times when movies were better, I’m sure he added a certain level of comedy to this movie. Of course, most people know where he is now so I think a positive rating towards this movie would be paying proper tribute to him.

Movie rating: 10 out of 10 (even though I’m not even sure who is who within the movie and can only guess what the main plot is. I think he goes to get his son’s Christmas gifts.) I will say this. This is definitely a first for me. I give a positive rating to a movie that I know nothing about just for the presence of a well known actor. I think this defeats the purpose of a movie review. The idea is that I have to see the movie in order to review it but anyway, this is my site and I think most people in reading this will get a laugh out of it.
