Movie Review: Trailer Park Boys: Standing On The Shoulders Of Kitties (2024)

Movie Review: Trailer Park Boys: Standing On The Shoulders Of Kitties (2024) seen in theatres

Comedy; not recommended for young children; coarse language, sexual dialogue and situations, including scenes which depict homosexuality, drug use, crude humor

Everyone’s favourite foul mouthed drug smoking trio from Sunnyvale Trailer Park returns for yet another installment of the film series based on the tv series of the same name which sees Bubbles attempt to make money by forming a rock band which tours in Europe. This leads to many misfortunes as Bubbles is forced to listen to advice given by Ricky and Julian as they try to convince him that life on the road can be difficult.

First of all I want to say that it’s great to be back doing movie reviews. As most people know by now from having read my messages that I posted, I had to take a leave of absence from doing this for personal reasons. This movie was actually the first movie I’ve seen since “Red One” starring the Rock.

Anyway, as it pertains to this film, I think all they were trying to do is capitalize on the success of the tv series as well as the previous films. If I’m being completely honest though, all the series and the movies really did was emphasize the use of the “F” word as well as evade cops while breaking the law as much as possible. As I have seen this in so many episodes of the show as well as the movies preceding this one, it’s become a very tired and boring concept. I mean, it’s the same thing over and over again. The boys try to make money using illegal tactics and eventually get caught while Bubbles is always the voice of reason, ETC. I can only watch the same thing so many times. Having said that, one thing I will say in regards to this film is that it didn’t feel like Trailer Park Boys at all. There were a lot of missing elements and characters from the original tv series and movies who don’t make an appearance. Also, the swearing has been toned down to a point and in this film in particular, there were no scenes where the boys (specifically Ricky,) do much of anything illegal and try to evade cops. As a matter of fact, there were no cops throughout the movie as about 90% of this film is Bubbles as e tries to keep his band together and Ricky and Julian are hardly seen at all in the middle of the movie. They are shown for a few scenes at the beginning and then in a call back to one of the episodes in the show, they are forced to retrieve Bubbles as he waits for them in a phone booth and passes out while doing so. All in all, this did not seem like the Trailer Park Boys I was used to and if I’m being honest, I think they’ve gone about as far as they can go with this series as well as these movies. I feel that people are just tired of the same old thing over and over again. Unfortunately, this will negatively effect the overall review of this film. Maybe this franchise has reached it’s peak and it’s time for it to move on. I don’t find it funny or watchable anymore. Maybe I’m being too harsh and there might be some people with a difference of opinion but from where I sit, the franchise has gotten really stale and repetitive. This review was originally going to be given a 7 or and 8. However, as I write this, I have come to realize everything that I previously wrote which I didn’t account for when determining what to rate this film. Therefore my decision stands. This movie was a waste of time and I would not recommend it.
