Movie Review: Annabelle’s Wish (1997) seen on cable tv and Youtube
Animation drama: some scenes may be unsuitable for young children; scenes which depict a young boy with a disability, scenes of bullying due to disability, some animal cruelty, scenes which discuss death, scenes involving child abuse, scenes which imply financial issues, one scene involving a police dispute, scenes which depict the possibility of animals being put to sleep
This movie follows a young boy who lives on a farm with his grandfather following the death of his parents years earlier. He is unable to speak due to a fire that occurred when he was a baby which in turn resulted in the death of his parents. He eventually finds a best friend in a young calf who dreams of becoming a reindeer.
Like my previous review on One Magic Christmas, I do not have much to say about this movie either. It is another one of those movies that mom enjoyed watching every Christmas and still does to this day. While I don’t have much to say about this movie, I do have a bit more to say about this movie than I did about One Magic Christmas. This movie actually made me appreciate animals a little more than I did prior to seeing it for the first time, especially small versions of animals, (kittens, puppies,) ETC. Growing up, we had a female cat named Kit Cat who reminds me of the calf in this movie. If this makes any sense, I like to look at animals and see what actor/actress, (depending on the gender of the animal,) would voice it if it was able to talk. Well, Kit Cat looked like the kind of animal who would have been voiced by the same actress who voiced Annabelle in this movie. There is something else some people may find interesting. I just found out that the same actress who voiced Annabelle in this movie voiced Lilian from Rugrats. So I suppose if Kit Cat or Annabelle was to become a human, either would become Lilian from Rugrats.
The one thing I don’t understand about this movie is whether or not it should be considered one. I have come to know that the standard movie is at least 90 minutes in length and upon doing research on this movie, I found out it is only 54 minutes in length. Therefore I’m not sure if it qualifies as a movie or just an hour long tv show. This could very well be the first review I’ve done on a tv show as opposed to a movie depending on how people choose to look at it. However, it makes no difference to me. It was something good to watch anyway. Whether it is a movie or not is irrelevant. Remember that these are my reviews. It’s Christmas and I promised mom and myself that I would do as many Christmas themed movies and tv specials as possible. No matter what it was, a movie or a tv show, it was really good and something I would definitely recommend.
Movie rating: 10 out of 10
Next movie review: TBD although presumably another Christmas movie
