Movie Review: Baby Girl (2024)

Movie Review: Baby Girl (2024) seen in theatres

Drama/Erotic Thriller: not recommended for young children; strong sexuality and sexual implications including sexual dialogue, sexual violence, including scenes which imply coercion into sexual acts, graphic nudity, coarse language, minor violence, minor scene with an implication of animal cruelty

This movie follows a female office worker in a loveless relationship who meets a young new intern who she is attracted to at first only to have him use his position in power to threaten her job if she fails to comply to his sexual advances after she initially tries to end the relationship as she considers the harm it would do to her family if she complies. She is soon coerced into an affair with the young man which causes her to reevaluate the entire status of her love life.

You know normally I’m warned by mom not to complain about the high ever growing price of going to the movies. There was a time before I reviewed movies and also had enough sense to watch trailers for the movies I intend to see that I would only go to the movies with stories of how expensive the popcorn was, how long it took to get there, whether I was on time for the movie, ETC. However, one thing I never used to be able to do was tell anybody anything valid about the movie I saw, (whether it was good or not or what it was about,) aside from the title of it. This was years ago and things have changed since then. Having said that, I am going to say that the price of movies is going up. However, when the first scene of a movie is sex, you know that I will not regret spending any amount of money on popcorn and the ticket itself. As a matter of fact, this movie in particular was so good that I even forgot I had popcorn to begin with and the small soft drink I bought was actually forgot about and not consumed until halfway through the movie. From the opening scene, I had a smile on my face, one which mom would frown upon of she saw it as she would know that my perverted mind was going to work. Throughout this movie, my usual grumpy face was turned into a happy one and it was almost like I had never stressed out before. Having said that, I want to give a shout out to Chris in this entry. For those of you who don’t know who this is, Chris is my best friend turned step brother who is currently married and has shown me on multiple occasions that he would rather watch movies which don’t depict any level of romance with me as he thinks his wife will be mad at him. However, this is made even worse when the movie we are watching not only includes scenes of sex but infidelity as well. This is because he has been lead to believe that infidelity is wrong and that once you’re married, you have no right to be with anyone else, all that crap. I have an opposite belief to this fact. I believe that just because you’re married, it doesn’t mean your husband/wife owns you. I mean, in most relationships, one will often say to the other that they should be able to talk to as many people other than the person they are dating without the other believe there is intimacy going on between them. This being the case, why shouldn’t this apply to sex? I mean, if people can talk to whoever they want even though they’re married, they should also be able to do that. It is my belief that no two people can commit to just having sex with one another for their whole life even if they are in a relationship. This is actually why I don’t want a girlfriend. You see, I don’t date girls who others would look at and not secretly want to be with themselves. This was actually the reason things didn’t work with my first girlfriend where my mother was concerned. However, I do not want to get back to telling the same story again, one which I feel as if I’ve told every year since my teenage years ended. This is also one I’m sick of telling to people.

All things considered, this was a great movie as I loved the infidelity and Nicole Kidman did not look her age throughout the movie. Having said that, I wish they would have cast the hot girl from Y2K to be in the lead role. This would have probably made me drop my whole bag of popcorn on the floor. Despite this, anyone looking for a movie to watch on date night should consider this….especially if they like infidelity and sex.
