Movie Review: Dog Man (2025) seen in theatres
Animation: Suitable for all ages; some mature themes, sci fi elements throughout, scenes which depict law enforcement, cartoon violence, minor scenes implying strained relationships/child abandonment, major emotional scenes, minor medical images/hospital scenes, scenes depicting incarceration.
This animated film follows a police officer who becomes intertwined with his dog after an explosion. They are tasked with stopping the evil cat of the town which is shown to be difficult for the canine after the feline continuously escapes from jail.
This is another one of those movies that seemed like a pass from having watched the trailer prior to seeing it. Unlike the other movies I have seen recently that have managed this distinction, this one did live up to the hype to a point. However, there are a few points I want to bring up which unfortunately will negatively effect this review. The first thing I want to talk about is the length of this movie. I know children’s movies aren’t supposed to be long but this movie didn’t even feel like a movie. It had a 94 minute runtime which felt like only an hour. Due to this being the case, it was almost like I was watching an hour long tv show rather than a movie. It seemed like the conflict within it was rushed to conclusion. I paid to see a movie, not a tv show. If I wanted to see a tv show, I would have just stayed home. This leads into my next complaint. I know this doesn’t really relate to the movie itself but I feel the need to include it in my comments. Does anybody out there believe that the movies is just a money grab? For years, I’ve felt this way especially since covid happened. The theatre nowadays tends to play very stale movies with no good storylines and most of them are second rate. However, what gets me more than this is the price they charge to see it. To see this movie, I had to pay almost $21.00 just for the ticket just because it played in the theatre’s clubhouse which should really make no difference. When attempting to purchase my ticket, I went through all the available showtimes trying to get the price down to it’s normal level at best, even trying to suggest going to see a different movie, (Wicked,) which would not have ended it time for me to catch my ride. In the end, I gave in and paid even though I was reluctant so I would have thought that the movie would have at least been longer and better.
All in all, this movie could have been better
