Movie Review: The Unbreakable Boy (2025)

Movie Review: The Unbreakable Boy (2025) seen in theatres

Drama: some scenes may be unsuitable for young children; scenes which depict mental disabilities, medical images, some violence, scenes depicting pregnancy, scenes which depict financial struggles, scenes which imply eviction due to inability to pay bills, mature themes throughout, scenes with alcohol use, scenes which depict bullying as a result of a disability, scenes with broken appendages throughout, scene with an auto collision due to inebriation, scenes which discuss marriage and divorce, major emotional scenes throughout.

Zachary Levi stars in this emotional but uplifting movie as the father to an autistic boy who also suffers from a bone disease whose resilience in the face of being bullied by his classmates over his disability combined with numerous health issues may serve to inspire his father to get over his issues with alcohol as well as turn all of his bullies into his friends by use of his ever growing optimism despite his challenges.

The first thing I want to say is that it’s great to be back doing movie reviews again. Every since WWE started producing their shows on Netflix, I have to say I’ve been a little busy to do reviews like this. This is the first review I’ve done in a few weeks. Anyway, now I will talk about the movie.

Though this movie was very predictable to me, (as I have seen other movies which follow this formula,) with a child who was born with a defect which sets him/her apart from his peers. At first, the parents don’t want him to attend school with fear that he/she will be bullied because of this defect. In the end, they eventually give in despite their apprehension and the boy/girl is bullied at first only for them to have a change of heart and the boy/girl in question becomes the hero among their peers, it was one I was really into. As a matter of fact, I feel as though I can learn a thing or two from this boy’s relentless optimism as I have shown stress for less severe reasons. This boy took nothing for granted and wanted to live and be happy despite his problems.

Another thing I want to point out is that this boy’s voice is very familiar to me. Years back, I met a girl who was a mainstay in the hospital for various health issues she had similar to the boy in the movie. The truth is that he has the exact same voice as this girl and though I never asked her out, she was hot. At times during this movie, I felt like she was talking every time the boy had any lines. For those of you who are wondering, I am disabled myself, however not to the extent that the girl or the boy was. I use a wheelchair and a walker to get around so I guess if I did get the courage to ask her out, it would have been somewhat acceptable.

Speaking of women who I find attractive, I know I’ve talked a lot about the father in this movie but I have to give special recognition to his wife in the movie, who is obviously the boy’s mother. She is so hot herself and what I really have failed to realize is that this is the same actor who starred in the 2019 movie “Shazam” as the title character. Those of you who are superhero fans might have seen this movie. I’m actually not a fan of superheroes but my brother wanted to see it so I tagged along and this is how I got to know who Zachary Levi was. I guess it takes a man with the powers of a superhero to get all of the women.

This movie’s message is pretty clear…..you can break a body but not a spirit. Though the boy had numerous broken appendages throughout the course of this film, he never allowed it to break his optimism and he became an inspiration to many….including myself as I will do my best to lead by his example and not sweat the small stuff. Though I can do without the million broken bones he suffers but his never ending positivity in the face of adversity is something I will remember forever. Well, at least until the next thing happens which causes me stress.

A rule of thumb I like follow when determining the rating for a movie is how much I can learn from it….how many valuable lessons were taught to me through the course of a two hour period while I sit there and stuff my face with popcorn while annoyingly asking myself what the next stress I face will be. Will it be a late bus? A health problem? Something real or fictional? Well all of the above are stupid reasons I have stressed before while this boy can literally have every bone in his body broken, every kid in school harass him, a father that drinks way too much, (who also has a hot wife,) but still has a smile on his face. This is something that I’m hoping will stick with me from now on. I hope one day that I can be as optimistic as he is. The point is that because of the valuable lesson that was taught to me, and I can’t seem to forget about this guy’s hot wife, this movie gets a really positive review.

Movie rating: 20 out of 20
