How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

There’s been very few failures in my life that I can think of mainly because I don’t like trying new things or things that I’m not accustomed to. If I had to choose it would probably be either my experience with my first girlfriend where I then realized that I should never have another one as a result of what happened with her, or the countless times I got in trouble as a kid where I resolved to grow up and be a momma’s boy. This is something that has mixed results to say the least. I know mom really does appreciate the effort I put forth in trying to be there for her but at the same time I can be annoying particularly with my constant calls to het. Other than that, everything has been ok for me hence I have not had many other failures.
