This movie follows a seemingly harmless toy monkey which is discovered by two brothers who initially don’t get along which turns evil and kills anyone close by when someone turns the crank on the toy which should enable it to play the drum attached to it. As it does, anyone who hears the sound of the carnival type music it plays when activated will have met their fate.
I know I’ve been toying with the idea, (no pun intended,) of possibly not reviewing certain movies for a while now due to most movies that have come out recently being hard to follow or confusing. This has been the case for the bulk of the movies I’ve seen in the last two years actually. Most of the time, I have no decided opinion on any of them due to the lackluster storyline or it not being what I expected, ETC. When movies such as these ones come out, it brings about the question of why I chose to waste my money on the movie and inevitably deciding, (sometimes as the movie is in progress,) that (insert movie,) will undoubtedly receive a fail on the review either because it was too confusing or I just didn’t like it. As I have said before many times, I owe it to myself to keep my word and review every single movie now that I have the site and it costs money to have it. For this reason, I need to write enough reviews that the money is worth it. Therefore, I had to slowly formulate a blog which was hard to do about midway through this film until I managed to figure out what was happening. For a while, some of this film did not make sense to me and would have received a bad review because of this. Towards the end of the film, it began to make sense therefore it will not receive as bad of a review at least compared to other movies I’ve seen.
I really enjoyed the action sequences throughout. I was a fan of the bloody scenes and it makes me not want to look at another monkey again. However, I’m too old for stuffed animals anyway. I enjoyed the graphic deaths and the “on the edge of your seat.” moments that this movie presented. Despite this, I cannot give it a full pass as there was that point throughout the movie which was hard for me to follow.
Having said that, I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys horror films that come with massive amounts of blood loss and graphic deaths. I’m just going to say this now. My mother would not last five minutes into this film. Then again, the genres of movies we like are completely different. However, for a good night out, I think this movie was indeed passable enough. It could have been better but at least it wasn’t horrible.
