Movie Review: Disney’s Snow White (2025) seen in theatres
Animation: Some scenes may be unsuitable for young children; some frightening scenes, scenes with dealing with coping following the loss of a loved one, scenes depicting coping with shyness and anxiety and social disorders and bullying, minor violence, minor medical scenes, musical numbers throughout, scenes with dialed down romantic implications, scenes depicting lessons in getting along and teamwork
This movie follows a princess who attempts to escape the clutches of her evil stepmother with the help of her seven new pals named the dwarfs who each possess their own characteristic in this live action remake of the classic children’s fairy tale.
I’m going to say this right off the bat. I have officially gone to the movies too much while disregarding the movies I have in my own home. This has been made apparent by the fact that recently, the selection of movies at the theatre pale in comparison to the ones I have available to me on DVD or any streaming service. It’s become a common theme for me to pick movies to see randomly even if I know nothing about them and where does this usually get me you ask? Well, I end up not knowing anything about the movie in question or the story behind the movie ETC This unfortunately results in the movie in question receiving a score of 0 on the review due to my lack of interest in the movie resulting in me daydreaming throughout, looking at my phone and finding solace the odd time my phone goes off in the middle of it which results in me having to leave early which isn’t a total loss considering I had been suffering through boredom prior to this and wondering to myself why I chose to go to a movie of that nature knowing I won’t like it and that the review would suffer, ETC. This isn’t the first movie I’ve walked out of since I started these blogs though. In the gap between Christmas and New Year’s last year, I went to see “Mufasa the Lion King,” which was yet another live action remake of “The Lion King.” Through my friend’s inability to hold back his emotion combined with the fact that I was getting sick at this time, we left the theatre resulting in the review on that movie receiving 0. From there, both of us decided we would no longer see movies we knew we wouldn’t be interested in or knew nothing about. The problem is that I have a tendency to go back on my word and every time a movie comes up, I have to see it regardless if I know anything about it despite my initial statement of not seeing it if I don’t know about it or know if I will like it at all, or even care about it if I’m being totally honest. This was one of those times unfortunately as I know nothing about Snow White other than the fact that she is flanked by dwarfs who sing “Heigh ho, it’s off to work we go.” ETC. To me, this wasn’t enough to warrant seeing the movie.
Having said all of this, I have to say that it wasn’t a total fail. There were some aspects of this movie that were passable. However, a lot of these aspects don’t deal with the movie itself. I was first drawn to this movie by Rachel Zegler who despite having the same complexion as my ex girlfriend is still considered hot to me. I first saw her in the movie “Y2K.” After seeing this movie, I vowed to one day watch another where she is featured due to her being sexually attractive. It just happens that she stars in a Disney movie that I really don’t care about but at least getting to see her again was worth it.
I was also introduced to a brand new movie format called “Screen X” which is the format in which I viewed this movie. Screen X is a bigger screen than normal where the movie is projected throughout the entire cinema rather than just on the screen in front of you. It can be seen on the walls to the side of the screen as well as on the screen itself. This makes the cinema brighter than normal which in turn enables me to see better. It has it’s downs though. This makes it very distracting to pay attention to the movie itself as you are also drawn to the light that beams on either side of you. I think this is what resulted in my headache. Also, it costs more for a ticket to one of these movies. Despite this, it is definitely unique and something I would like to try again.
As far as the movie itself is concerned, the list of things I like are much shorter. In fact, if it wasn’t for the non movie aspects that made this trip worth taking, the review would have either been much shorter than it has been or it may be the first movie that I have not written a review for since I started using this site. It would have been one of those cases where a review would have been thrown together at the last minute just so I can keep my word of reviewing every new movie I watch, with it obviously earning a failing review. Having said that, I do enjoy movies with musical numbers within them. This movie had a lot of them and I found myself dancing along each time there was one and if nothing else, I did enjoy this aspect of the movie.
So with all things considered, this movie wasn’t bad. It definitely could have been better though. Maybe this just goes to show that sometimes, the movies isn’t the greatest place to be especially when there’s nothing passable on. Having said that, Rachel Zegler as well as other things listed in this review saved this movie from otherwise being a bad one. Even though it won’t earn a complete pass, it will not receive a complete fail either.
Movie rating: 10 out of 20
Next movie review: TBD although something on DVD or a streaming service.
