Movie Review: Novocaine (2025)

Movie Review: Novocaine (2025) seen in theatres

Action thriller: not recommended for young children; coarse language, violence, some gory scenes, brief nudity and sexuality, scenes depicting gunplay, scenes depicting sexual situations

This movie follows a banker with a disability who is impervious to pain and must use this advantage to confront a gang of bank robbers who abduct his love interest as they rob the bank he works at while dressed as Santa Claus.

I know I sound like I have repeated myself a lot lately in doing these reviews in saying that I have gone to the theatre far too much now as opposed to watching movies I had at home. However, certain unexpected developments lead me to once again make an appearance at the movie theatre to see a movie I did not know anything about. This is the second movie in a row that I was unable to follow as the plot was confusing at times. The guy in the movie is supposedly impervious to pain yet takes a bunch of beatings throughout and for the most part acts like a coward when confronted, (for lack of a better term as there are some choice words I could say to describe his cowardice but won’t because this is online.) I think the fact that he is impervious to pain is nonsense, (once again, for lack of a better term,) as he is shown to be anything but impervious to pain. Also, I have to question this movie’s release date. Supposedly the events that take place within the movie are around Christmas time and also this movie depicts Santa Claus. That being the case, why is a movie like this not being released in December?

As many faults as this movie has though, it did have one thing that made it worth watching. This is something that has saved my last few reviews from otherwise receiving a complete fail. This was the involvement of a hot girl in the plot. The movie itself could have been better but getting to look at her for about 2 hours was worth the price of admission. As everybody knows though, this is not the first movie I’ve reviewed to have a hot girl be the only thing that made the movie passable. This has actually happened a lot lately and it was ok the first time and it’s even ok this time around but eventually I would think there would need to be something else that makes a movie good. Otherwise, what’s the point of doing a review if it’s the same thing over and over again? As there appear to be no more movies I care to see, at least for the next little while, the next few reviews will be on movies I have available in my house. This is something that I will admit has been lacking lately. The amount of movies viewed in my house vs at the theatre. Hopefully one of those will break the spell of having sex appeal being the only thing good about a movie which I review. This just goes to show that I have officially gone to the movie theatre too much and I have to be honest in saying I’m tired of going there. Having said that though, this movie was good enough not to be a complete flop because of the attractiveness of the actress within it. For those who are able to follow the plot of this movie, I guess I would recommend it. For everyone else, not so much. So once again, this movie’s overall rating is saved by something other than the movie itself. This is something I’m sure will get better in the days to come. For now though, I guess it’s good enough for a full pass.

Movie rating: 20 out of 20

Next movie review: TBD although something on a streaming service or DVD.
