What animals make the best/worst pets?

Being an ornithophobe, I would never have a bird as a pet. To me, this would obviously qualify as a bad pet. Having said that, numerous times as a child when I was bad, my mother would playfully tease me and say she would get a caged bird as a pet and release it as punishment. Through my whole life, I was told that they’re more afraid of me and then won’t hurt me and my mother even said she would be more afraid of a big dog attacking her. Some twenty years later, that phobia still stands. I’m very cautious to be outside waiting for a bus or walking on the street, anywhere that a bird may be. These days my focus is just to avoid them at all costs and take revenge for them supposedly harassing me during my first 35 years. I would never have a bird as a pet and if I’m being honest, I dislike people who own birds as pets, even going as far as to call them crazy and believe that they have no idea what they’re getting themselves into owning them. I will often threaten to harm the animal if I come across a person who I know has one saying that if they bring it anywhere near me, it would be dead. There was once a woman who was hired by the building where I live for some reason. To make a long short short, I met her and she had a pet hawk. I don’t know her name but I do know she named the bird Monty. I wasted no time in telling her to keep the (profanity used to describe the animal) away from me or I would harm it. She first took offense to the comment but changed her tune when I admitted my fear to her. She actually turned out to be a nice person.

However, dogs and cats are the best pets anyone could have. They’re loyal and love to cuddle. I have had numerous cats and one or two dogs, (not at the same time,) during my childhood. They were great companions and loved to sleep with me and my brothers and my mother absolutely adored them. I currently live in a place where animals are not permitted so I don’t own one. My mother currently owns two cats, (one of whom I have never seen in person yet,) but the other one loves me. I remember a couple of Christmases ago when I had covid staying with my mother. I woke up and couldn’t breathe and was gasping for air. My mother was asleep but the cat rushed towards me and I was sleeping on the floor on a mattress. He noticed I was suffering so he climbed on top of the mattress and curled up in the gap I left between my arms. I had been sleeping on my side. He rested his head on the mattress while purring and fell asleep enabling me to fall asleep too. The next morning when my mother came in the room, she saw this and thought it was cute. This was just the start of covid for me and I was sick with it for two more weeks but it was just nice to have a cat care and to do what he could to help me in my time of need.

The bottom line is that cats and dogs are great pets, birds not so much.
