Movie Review: The Luckiest Man In America (2025) seen in theatres
Biographical Thriller/Drama: some scenes may be unsuitable for young children; coarse language throughout, brief dialogue suggesting mild romantic implications, scenes which depict divorce, some emotional scenes
This movie chronicles the journey of a game show contestant named Michael Larson who rose to prominence in the 80’s by winning the then largest amount of money in game show history on the tv show “Press Your Luck” despite numerous network executives and staff writers believing he had cheated.
I never thought I would be doing a review on this show mainly because I only write movie reviews. Since this movie was based on the show “Press Your Luck” though, I will say that as far as me liking the show or not, that has been up for debate for the longest time. I have no decided opinion on the show itself. Sometimes I can handle it while others times, those red furry little creatures known as whammies freak me out. The problem is that every time I look in my bank account, I feel like they’ve either invaded it or they decided it’s not worth invading due to my lack of money. The way I see it, at the end of the day I know it’s just a show and those are just cartoon characters. Having said that, I feel like they follow me around all the time and have been for as long as I’ve been alive, (the first incarnation of this show is older than I am,) and after watching the show, the whammies used to give me nightmares therefore I stopped watching it for some time and then started up again recently. A well known fact about this movie is that I heard about it only a couple of minutes before I left to go to the theatre and since I’m currently at a point where I can stand to watch the show, I figured I would give it a shot. Though the movie didn’t disappoint, I feel like the whammy could have made more of an appearance. Despite this though, it was passable and I really enjoyed it.
