Movie Review: Drop (2025) seen in theatres

Thriller: not recommended for young children; coarse language, dialogue which discusses relationships, violence, scenes which imply possible child endangerment, some gory scenes, scenes depicting alcohol and drug use, scenes depicting online harassment, minor medical images

This movie follows a widowed mother whose young son’s life is threatened by an unknown person who sends text messages to his mother’s phone with the intent to harm the child if she does not murder her date.

This is another one of those movies which I was expecting more out of based on seeing the trailer. The plot didn’t make sense. I didn’t understand the conflict throughout or what it had to do with the guy she was dating which was implied through the trailer. To me, the answer was easier to come up with than the made it seem throughout the movie. If she knew her son was in danger, she should have ran home. Then again, she didn’t have to go on the date if she was that worried about her son’s safety. Also, call me old school if you want to but if you’re on a date with someone, shouldn’t your phone be turned off? I mean, at the end of the day, this is how all the problems started. I know I’m one to talk on a personal level because even at times in my life when putting the phone away is necessary, I don’t and if I’m forced to, it’s not done without some sort of dispute. However, if the phone was turned off to begin with, she never would have received the message initially and maybe the date could have been better. Eventually the sender would have felt like they were wasting time and would have stopped. However, it seems that’s all people care about these days. Young women out of a relationship can never seem to be happy if they don’t seek out someone else. I haven’t had a girlfriend in years and despite some objections to this initially, I have to say that my life is better without one. I can do what I want when I want and there’s never a need to compromise. People who go on dates want to replace their old significant other with a new and obviously better one hence they can never just be happy being single. I will say on a personal level that I would never go on a date willingly with a woman as this just causes issues that I don’t have the energy to put up with at my age. These are all factors that easily could have prevented the conflict within this movie and therefore, this movie’s conflict rests solely on the fact that the woman well, won’t take no for an answer, (for lack of a better term.) I would think if she was able to, then I suppose there wouldn’t be a movie. Having said that, what we got was less pleasurable anyway.

The one thing I will say about movies these days is that the ones I’ve seen are getting too repetitive in terms of me not understanding them or knowing very little if anything at all about them which nearly leads to the movie in question receiving no review at all due to my lack of points to bring up about it, only for me to somehow generate one in the name of keeping my word that every movie gets a review no matter how bad it is. This movie was closer than any other at not getting a review mainly because of my headache and fatigue but also because it follows what seems like the never ending trend of me not knowing about a movie and inevitably giving it a fail as a result. At least, in Minecraft’s case, Jack Black’s presence boosted it from a total fail to a total pass. This movie has nothing to save it from a failing review. I was very disappointed in this movie. There has to be better movies out there. For now though, this is yet another major disappoint of a movie that I saw.
