Silent Love Part 2: Jeff’s Revenge

Warning: The following story is meant to be a continuation of the story I previously wrote titled “Silent Love” which follows my relationship with Megan following our marriage. It depicts the end of my friendship with my friend Chris after I refuse to defend him from Megan’s constant harassment of him out of revenge for the events that previously took place in the backstory of the first story where Chris got under my skin for no reason thanks to the influence of his grandmother. Though certain parts of this story paint me as a bully towards him and paint him as the victim, this story is fictional and in reality, Chris and I are the best of friends.

Silent Love Part 2: Jeff Revenge

Our story takes place in the not too distant future following the marriage of Megan and myself. A lot has changed since the events of the last story. Megan and I have successfully moved into our own condo with the money I previously earned from the national spelling bee. Mom has accepted to Megan’s place in my life and has since taken a step back from being my primary caregiver, (though she is still present in my life.) One of the biggest changes in my life has been the amount of times I call mom throughout the day. While we still do call at least once a day, I find myself more capable than ever of handling when she’s not available. I no longer get mad if and when she fails to answer my call and actually, we no longer have set times to call each other and it just happens naturally. This was one of the many rules Megan set up as terms to our relationship. I would not call mom anymore than I have to and would be ok if we go for extended periods of time without talking to each other. This actually makes the time I do get to spend with mom a lot more enjoyable and she is shown to feel better due to the lack of stress. Our book titled, “The Road To Love” which we cowrote has sold up to a million copies worldwide which assists in the everyday finances we are faced with.

However, the biggest change in our life is actually the reason for this story. No we’re not pregnant. As a matter of fact, we’ve said goodbye to some people that I was once close to. This did not come as a result of death but a mutual agreement that after years with this person, our friendship had gotten stale to the point of no more relevance. If this wasn’t bad enough, we can no longer stand each other. At this point Chris and I are no longer friends. This was something that shocked me as it occurred as I knew it would shock everybody else. Since high school everybody saw us as this unbreakable duo with an unbreakable bond though circumstances surrounding his marriage brought on by people who did not agree with my place in his life tested the friendship as it was never tested before. Through it all though, with the help of our parents we always seemed to maintain a friendship. That being said, it makes people wonder just what could have happened to break such a strong bond between two people as close as brothers at one point in their lives. Well it turns out that Megan has a dark side that I need to accept if I want to maintain a relationship with her. As strong as our friendship was, it could not withstand her influence.

The wedding date was set on the same day as Chris and his wife’s anniversary. In the weeks leading up to the big day, I would visit Chris, his wife and her sister at their house while I unintentionally caused a problem between myself and his wife, (which is nothing new to this point,) by bringing up the festivities on a day that his wife felt should be about them. As usual, the same sequence of events occurred with Chris being present to see that his wife is being unreasonable only to side with her anyway which in turn causes me to get mad at him and everything dissolves into complete chaos. Not content with Chris not attending at first, I make a suggestion to change the date of the wedding so that the anniversary for Chris and his wife to go as normal. After discussing this with Megan, she is not onboard with the decision as she feels her happiness should not depend on Chris and his wife while also saying that the venue has already been booked and paid for and thus cannot be changed.

After an attempt to explain this to Chris and his wife leads to an even more intense argument, it becomes clear to me that maybe Chris should not attend despite his role of my best man in the wedding. I resolve to have my younger brother take charge of this aspect of the wedding. After running this by Megan, she is ok with Chris not attending citing the fact that this is not about them anyway but calling Chris selfish due to his need to be elsewhere when his best friend needs him the most.

As preparations are altered for the wedding without Chris in mind, I begin to feel bad that Chris cannot make it and feel as if it’s only right that he is my best man given the fact that I was his best man at his wedding. With this in mind, I once again mention to Megan that the date should be changed. When her response is to call off the wedding all together, (with no intention of actually doing it, she had just been saying that,) I agree that the date should remain the way it was. I call my brother and explain the situation to him. He is more than happy to oblige though he says this with a tear. When I ask him what’s wrong, he replies, “I just can’t believe you’re getting married.”

As mom is visiting with him the next day, he explains the situation to her. Mom refuses to allow Chris to miss the wedding even if it’s on his anniversary. She calls me and discusses the situation with me only to have me tell her to talk to Chris about it herself to avoid confrontation.

As mom suggests that Chris and his wife plan something separate on a different day for their anniversary, citing how big this event is, this creates a huge fight between his wife and eventually her parents who believe the day should still be about them initially. As the basis for this argument stemmed from them not being told about our upcoming nuptials, they change their tune when the find out the truth and even resolve to assist in the festivities. The preferred venue for the wedding is the same place that Chris and his wife got married so everybody except for his wife believe that it should bring back good memories of when they got married. This could have been a way to commemorate the tenth anniversary of where it all began for them, by helping us create our new beginning together.

After mom confirms to me that the date is set, Megan and I resolve to visit them again to go over wedding plans. This turns out to be a big mistake as this is when things go sour for Chris and I.

In the midst of the conversation, his wife begins to pout and when asked what’s wrong by Megan, she doesn’t answer. When we’re able to figure out that it’s the wedding taking place on their anniversary, Megan snaps after his wife puts her fist up and punches her until she cries. As Chris and I were sitting there the whole time, he berates me for not controlling her as I should have known she did something wrong. I respond by saying that he never did that when his wife and I used to fight.

Without warning, Chris charges at me attempting to hit me only to be intercepted by Megan who knocks him down to the floor. She then begins punching his face causing him to cry. As his wife attempts to yell for help, I cover her mouth with tape while telling her to shut up.

“Look at your hero, your husband!” I taunt as Megan continues to beat him down. “This wedding is about us….NOT YOU!”

After Megan finally lets up on Chris, I drive over his scarred arm (which was injured in a fall he took in reality. The scar is still present in the story though this injury was real but accidental,) with my chair causing him to wince in pain.

“We don’t want to see either of you at our wedding.” we scream as we leave their house.

Weeks go by with Chris and I not talking over the incident. The arm that was run over by me now requires a sling and though sympathetic to the reason why I was angry with them, mom felt that we went too far.

The day of the wedding was absolute chaos. Some of my distant relatives, (who are unaware of the fight that we had with each other,) arrive and question why Chris and I aren’t failing to talk to each other especially given the fact that we are best friends and this is a joyous occasion. Throughout the ceremony as the priest says his normal piece, his wife would waste no time in announcing that it is equally their anniversary as well which angers Megan. Admittingly, my wedding vow didn’t help matters.

“Baby, you deserve so much better on what should be your special day. I mean, you have a husband that loves you dearly who has a family who would do anything they can to support you. But we’ll talk about that later. I prefer to live in the moment. We have the rest of our lives for me to make up to you what has been a disaster for a wedding, not because of the amount of people that showed up and support us, not because of the dress you are wearing and certainly not the wedding cake or the amount of money spent on this special day. Let’s not forget that there’s also no shortage of love from you. No you deserve a better bridesmaid and I deserve a better best man. I’m sorry they had to show up. This wasn’t my idea. Mom forced me to include them and my brother would have been so much better for the role of best man. At least he cares. Don’t you get it Chris? YOU AND YOUR WIFE AREN’T WELCOME SO GET THE F–K OUT!”

He looks and me and screams “Are you serious?” before we come to blows. The fight is broken up by the people in attendance but as per Megan’s orders are escorted out by security where her parents drive them home. In a last ditch effort to put my two cents in, I tear his tuxedo to shreds, (that his in laws bought him,) claiming that it’s not a big deal since they are millionaires and can easily replace them.

After Chris and his wife are escorted from the premises, the wedding resumes as normal. After the priest says his piece which states the normal, “If anyone objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace, Chris and his wife both shout, “We object,” to which everyone else replies, “No one cares what you think.” After sharing our normal kiss, we all lived happily ever after.

The End
