Bringing Megan Home Chapter 6: The Big Day By Jefferson Bert

Our story begins in the summer following Megan’s First Christmas. Megan and I have been engaged since then and the wedding date was set for the summer. We also got the greatest gift anyone could ask for. This was mom fully recovering from a stroke that she had previously suffered. This allowed her to be a better grandmother to Megan as she wanted to be all along and in the past few weeks, she has focused her attention on making sure Megan looks as beautiful as her mother. She has brought her a matching white dress with earrings. Everything seems great but it seems as though I’m having trouble finding a suitable size suit to wear for the big day. This is where our story begins.

Bringing Megan Home Chapter 6: The Big Day by Jefferson Bert

Mom and Megan are out shopping with our daughter for the wedding. She is trying on a dress that mom intends to buy her

“Oh my god. You look adorable.” mom said as Megan puts on the dress and poses for mom outside of the dressing room.

“Thank you.” Megan said

“Wait until your mother sees how beautiful you are in your dress.” mom said

Megan is seen entering the store. She had gone shopping for shoes to go with the dress that mom bought her for Christmas. She notices our daughter in the dress.

“Oh wow. You look amazing.” Megan said.

“So are we in agreement? Is this the dress that my granddaughter should wear to the wedding?” mom asks

They both nod their head yes. “Well then let’s take it.” mom says

Back at home, I have had trouble getting my own suit on. I decide I will wait until Megan gets back so she can help me. However, I find the suit doesn’t fit and is too tight to wear so I put my pyjamas on and patiently wait until they return.

“We better get home now. We’re meeting your dad for lunch. God I hope he’s ready by the time he gets there. I don’t want to miss our reservation.” mom said.

“I’ll call him now.” Megan said

Megan calls me. “Are you ready yet honey? We’re done shopping. Why don’t you just come outside and meet us?” she says

“Well I would but I have a little problem.” I say

“What is it?” asked Megan

“Well just come home and you’ll find out.” I reply

“They return home to find me in my pyjamas. “I can’t believe you’re not ready yet. This is supposed to be fun and I do not want to wait the full day for you to be ready. You had one job. Get yourself ready for lunch with your mother, daughter and wife to be by the time we came back home and you couldn’t even do that.” mom ranted

“I think it’s because he really doesn’t want to get married to me. If you can’t take this seriously Jefferson then we do have to do it.” Megan snapped.

The arguing starts to bother our daughter. “Stop arguing.” she demands

“You know this is typical Jefferson. He was like this every time we went out when he was growing up. He was never ready and it made me not want to go anywhere with him.” mom said

Just then our daughter looks at the size of the suit. “Did anybody ever consider that maybe the reason daddy isn’t wearing the suit is because it’s too small? Look at it.” she says.

Mom looks at the suit. “You went and bought your suit from a children’s clothing store? That is ridiculous. Why would you do that?” mom asks.

“Things at the children’s store are cheaper.” I reply.

“Do you think this is some kind of joke? Now we have to get you fitted for a new suit, buy that suit, come home and get you changed and get to the wedding ceremony. We’ll never make it.” mom says.

As we scramble to find a store that has my proper size, it turns out that they are all sold out. “This is just great. Now what are we going to do?” asked mom as she begins to get annoyed.

Maybe we have to cancel the wedding. It’s obvious he wants no part of this.” Megan said.

“I have a better idea. We keep saying that this wedding is to give our daughter what she wants right?” I suggest.

“Yes but it appears we can’t give her what she wants because you ruined it.” mom said

“A wedding is a celebration of love. It really doesn’t matter what you wear as long as you dress appropriately. And if the purpose of this wedding was to welcome Megan into the family and give her the family she’s always wanted, should she not stand out in the crowd? Maybe everybody can see Megan for who she truly is now. A beautiful girl who clearly takes after her mother. That beauty can be seen through the beautiful white dress she wears. We should prove to Megan how much we love her by showing everybody that she is one of the two most gorgeous people there.” I explain.

“Who’s the second person?” mom asks

“Megan is the second person. She is supposed to take after her mother.” I reply.

“Excuse me. What about me?” mom asks.

“You’re the person who actually made all of this possible when you think about it. Megan and I wouldn’t be in love with each other if you never had me and we certainly wouldn’t have a beautiful daughter if I wasn’t present to make it. Megan and our daughter can be the most beautiful people there but the entire wedding was made possible by you.” I explain.

“Thank you honey.” mom says.

“And I know just what shirt I can wear to the wedding.” I say

I wear the white shirt that has a picture of mom and I on the front that reads “World’s Best Mom.”

With the problem now solved, the rest of the wedding goes off without a hitch. Our daughter has taken on the role of Megan’s maid of honor. It ends just like any other wedding with the two of us saying “I do” before running off together as we start a new life as husband and wife with our daughter.
