Daily writing prompt
Where did your name come from?

I never really thought of this until I became an adult. As an adult, I like to think that I was named after the president Thomas Jefferson. My first name is Jeff. My mother has denied this theory and I don’t think she was ever into politics. The truth is that my mother always loved the first name Jeff or Jeffrey, (I go by Jeff,) and said that the name of her first born son would be Jeff. I was that person and guess what my name is?

Though I never really had an opinion of my name up until reaching my 30’s, (I’m 35 years old as I write this,) I’ve wanted my legal name to be changed to Jefferson and also I went through a period of wanting to change my last name as it is different from my mother’s last name and I wanted it to be the same . I also have personal reasons for not liking my current last name. As for my first name, I’ve adopted the belief that Jeff and/or Jeffrey is too bland but Jefferson sounds more sophisticated and people will be able to link me to Thomas Jefferson. Mom does not want me to change my name as she is happy with it the way it is.

However, as most of you have read the stories on this site written by Jefferson Bert, it turns out that I’m that guy. Jefferson Bert is my author name that was given to me by my stepfather when I rediscovered my passion for writing again. This is unofficial though and my legal name continues to be Jeff despite my objections to this. Everybody should know though that when they read something listed as “By Jefferson Bert,” on this site, I’m the guy who is writing it. I’m also the guy responsible for the hundreds of movie reviews that have been posted on this site as well. This is something I don’t do anymore because it made watching movies seem more like a chore than a pastime. I always had to formulate the review, find my likes and dislikes, ETC and it was just too hard on me to always do that. I also figured that people who haven’t seen the movie I’m reviewing can just as easily watch it on their own. So I have replaced the movie reviews with a series of books I have written titled “Silent Love,” and “Sins Of My Brother,” among others that people can read by an author named Jefferson Bert who just happens to be me. However, the story writing has also been put on a hiatus as I try to find new ideas. Mom believes that I have gone as far as I can go with the character of Megan who is supposed to be my girlfriend turned wife as we have a child together within the story, a daughter who is named after her mother. Most of these books will soon be published but for now, they are available on the site to view for those who have not yet seen them. They go chapter by chapter. Just look for any post ending with “By Jefferson Bert” and you should know that it’s one of my stories. If you’re a fan of romantic novels mixed with some violence and maybe even a little sci fi, you’ll love these stories. I’m hoping to start some new books as soon as more ideas become available. Now I notice that I may have gotten a little off topic. As for my name, (which was the question asked but I started talking about something else,) it came from my mother’s love of the name Jeff. This was my given name. My author name Jefferson Bert is a name that my stepfather gave me which also affords me be given the name I want to be given in a way. It unofficial once again but as an author, my name is Jefferson Bert. Now if only I can get mom to give me that name on my birth certificate. Maybe this can be the storyline for my next book where something happens and I end up with a different name. I’m sure this will be something everybody will enjoy reading.

The response to the above written question was written by Jefferson Bert. A man who prefers his author name more than his actual name

From now on, each response to one of these questions will end with the signage of my author name Jefferson Bert as I try to incorporate that name in everything I will write from this point forward thus making my full name Jefferson Bert anytime I’m in front of my computer. This question is no exception but it is the first question to be given the distinction of ending with the signage of my author name.

Jefferson Bert
