Daily writing prompt
Write about your first name: its meaning, significance, etymology, etc.

This question is very confusing to me. I really don’t know what my first name means. For those of you who don’t know, my first name is Jeff. I’m the guy who writes movie reviews on this site. While I can’t say much about my name, I will say that my mother wanted her first son to be named Jeff. This is how they came up with my name. This is going to sound crazy but I don’t know what etymology means so this question is impossible for me to answer properly. The best I can do is say that in the past few years, I’ve wanted to change my last name (for personal reasons,) but more recently, I’ve wanted to upgrade my full name to Jefferson as opposed to Jeffrey which my legal name is. I don’t know why I want to do this. It’s just something that came to mind but my mother doesn’t agree with this. When meeting new people, I tell them that my full name is Jefferson and that I was named after the president Thomas Jefferson. I also tell people that my parents wanted to name my brothers or even me Theodore after the present Theodore Roosevelt. Unfortunately, my mother shoots down both theories as well as the few requests I’ve made to change my name to Jefferson. I want to make one thing clear. My name isn’t Jefferson, it’s Jeff which is short for Jeffrey. I have no ties to any president at all even though it would be cool if I did. I guess Jeff will always be my given name. Looking back though, I really don’t think it makes a difference. I am who I am whether my name is Jeff, Jefferson, or just the guy that does the movie reviews. You don’t even have to call me anything if you don’t want to but here’s a compromise. If you want to call me something, you can call me “The World’s Biggest Momma’s Boy,” which is the intended name of my soon to be published autobiography….a name that perfectly fits my approach to life. I’m a 34 soon to be 35 year old momma’s boy and nothing is going to change that. Some may appreciate this completely while others may have mixed emotions on this. My mother would fall into the latter category as she gets annoyed by my constant calls and attempts to reach her but at the same time, she does appreciate it to an extent.

Once again I will say that this response was given by a guy named Jeff AKA “The World’s Biggest Momma’s Boy.”
