Movie Review: Green or Gold (2025)

Movie Review: Green or Gold (2025) seen in theatres

Drama; not recommended for young children; scenes depicting financial strain, some scenes involving pain to animals, scenes depicting possible poverty and loss of home, major emotional scenes, some violence, some medical images and discussions throughout, coarse language, scene which depicts possible suicide, scenes depicting depression over death

This movie follows a farmer who is a football fan who is in danger of losing his farm due to bank foreclosure and repossession due to an accumulation of missed payments. As he struggles to find a solution, his adult granddaughter tries to assist him by performing concerts as she is an aspiring musician before it is too late and he loses everything.

To be honest, I knew absolutely nothing about this movie prior to seeing it and if I had my choice, I would not have chose to see it. The only small thing I knew about this movie, (or that I thought I knew,) was that it was a sports movie of some kind. I had never seen the preview but it appeared as though the uniform the man was wearing was one that a baseball coach would wear. This shocked me when mom said she wanted to see it as I thought it was about sports. It turns out I was wrong to a point. However, I was right that the man likes sports, just not baseball. He’s a fan of football. Therefore, this movie was believed to be one similar to “Ordinary Angels,” where a fundraiser is started to help a single father in need for a child who is suffering from a disease. Whatever the plot of this movie was, it was mom who chose it so who am I to argue? Having said that, I got nothing from this movie aside from the fact that the man granddaughter, (who is almost my age in real life,) was hot. The rest of the movie, I did not understand. I know there were scenes involving barnyard animals, (cows, horses,) ETC but I did not like this movie and as a matter of fact, I fell asleep during the movie. It goes without saying that a movie that I fall asleep watching would earn a review in the same category as “One Of Them Days,” I’m not going to do that with this one. While I didn’t care much for this movie, it’s rating is based on something else all together. Those who refer to the last response I gave on this site to the daily writing prompt will read that these days, every moment spent with mom is treasured. It doesn’t matter what we do or how much money we spend, ETC. The fact is that due to mom’s slowly failing health, I treat every time I’m with her as a special time as I know one day, I will not be able to. I’ve slowly learned that it’s not about what you do, it’s who you do it with and these are the moments I cherish the most, the ones with mom. Therefore for the first time, the overall rating of this film will have nothing to do with the film itself. Here’s to hoping I get to see many more movies with mom. It’s just not the same without her.

Movie rating: 20 out of 20
