Though I do have the ability to read I don’t like to read. As a matter of fact, there have been two things that I’ve never really been fond of in my 36 years on this earth. I’ve never liked books or music. Growing up, I never found entertainment in turning on the radio for hours at a time and I didn’t really have any favorite songs. Having said that, if I was at one of my high school dances, music would be welcome as it presented a break from the usual routine of working my fingers to the bone. These days, I sometimes listen to music on YouTube if there’s nothing else to do or if I’m biding my time waiting for something. This is done particularly when my friend is over but rarely do I do it alone. So despite it not being an absolute favorite of mine, as I’ve reached my mid 30’s, at least music provides temporary amusement for me.

When it comes to books though, they have been a thorn in my side every since I was a kid. As I said before, I’m able to read but I just don’t like to. This caused problems for me in school as I was assigned to read books for homework at times and my mother pushed me to read certain books as an alternative to watching tv all of the time. Tv was something I loved growing up but my mother didn’t always approve of the shows I watched so she tried to get me to spend afternoons reading books with the warning of me losing privileges if I didn’t. About 26 years ago, (I would have been 10 years old at the time,) when the Harry Potter books were the must have item for kids my age, I was tasked to read a couple of the books by mom. This wasn’t a school assignment, it was an order from mom. Well I can safely say that I never really read the books but rather stared at the page to make it appear as if I was. I’ve never finished a Harry Potter book and even though I’m currently the biggest fan of movies there is, I never cared about any of the movies. I always felt they were too long and I felt restless watching them. What made it worse was that I couldn’t follow them as they definitely weren’t my preferred genre. To date, I’ve seen two Harry Potter movies but I can’t remember which ones they were. Quite a few years ago, I was accused by mom of only having the desire to go to the movies just to eat the popcorn. Admittingly there was a point when I would seemingly choose a movie at random to see in the theatre despite knowing very little if anything at all about them as well as having no previous desire to see the movie. Things have changed a lot since then and I don’t watch movies unless I watch the trailer first to see if it’s something I would like particularly if I was seeing it in theatres but I do this at home too because I feel like it’s a waste of time and money to go to see a movie that I know I won’t like. Well, I saw the Harry Potter movies back when I went to the movies for nothing and yes eating the popcorn was the pleasurable part of the outing when I saw those movies. Currently I have made a list of certain movies to watch on different platforms on this site as I tend to forget the names of certain movies I want to see. This does not include movies I desire to see in the theatre. It is currently standing at 185 movies that I have on the site and the number just keeps growing. Each time I see a movie and approve of the trailer, it gets added to the list of movies I have.

To make my response simple, I don’t know of any books that are overrated because the fact is, as far as I’m concerned, every book is. I would much prefer to watch things on tv because I feel that reading is a waste of time. If I was to have anything to do with books at all, I would rather write them rather than read them.

I want to make it clear that by no means do I intend to offend those people on this site who like to read. We are all entitled to our own opinions and mine is that tv is much better than books.
