Daily writing prompt
What’s one thing you wish you had started doing earlier in life?

Up until just recently, I would not have had an answer for this question. However, a couple of years ago, I started doing movie reviews. This was one of the main reasons for me acquiring a space on this site. I would watch different movies and then post reviews on this site which always ended with an overall rating of the movie in question based on my personal opinion and the quality of the movie, whether I agreed or disagreed with certain actors being cast, sometimes the general plot of a certain movie, ETC. This is generally what I would base my opinion on. Now I stopped doing this for a while as I had lost interest in doing in initially. However, a couple of months ago, I started doing it again, (though not on this site,) and it seems to have started a resurgence as I have rediscovered my passion for doing it. My uncle obtained a special place on his website where the reviews on the movie I watch are posted as well as the poster for each movie I watch being featured on the site as well. I send the reviews through a group email to my uncle and mom and then he updates the site with my review and the poster for each movie along with a Jeff O meter, (my first name is Jeff,) which is basically a scale from one to ten which is used to describe my overall opinion on the movie I just watched with one being the worst, (though I only go as low as three unless it’s a zero,) and ten being the best. As of right now, I have over ten to fifteen movies that I have reviewed that have been posted with more to come. As of right now, I only review movies but I’m in the process of trying to expand my reviews to include Wrestling PPVs as well. As of the time of this writing, I’m still trying to figure out how to make this work. I still have to figure out what my opinion on each one will be based on and how to rate them, (whether I will do so based on outside interference, or match quality,) ETC. As I said before though, this is still in the planning stages and as of right now, I only review movies. I’m also looking to create a book filled with my different reviews which would solidify myself as an author of movie reviews. I’m trying to come up with a catchy title and the book should contain a list of all the movies I’ve reviewed based on genre and year of release, ETC. This is also something that is still in the works and not officially being done yet.

To answer the question though, it’s really a shame that I didn’t start doing movie reviews earlier on in life. Admittingly I was too busy wasting my time on things and people that got on my nerves in my childhood and teenage years, (of course, mom and my uncle and anybody else in my family does not fall into this category,) to pursue this. I also notice that since I started these reviews, I find myself too busy to worry about things and people that are no longer relevant and being mad, ETC. Mom always told me during this time that my life needed structure and that without structure, I would waste my time worrying about these things because I would have too much time on my hands especially at times when everybody else was busy pursuing their own lives. At one point in my life, I had no job, no hobbies, very minimal responsibilities and no routine. It was during this period that I did nothing else but think about past issues and people that I didn’t like as if they were relevant and situations that could have gone better, and creating stories in my mind that would make me angry in the present. Each time I chose to do that, the same thing happened. I would get in trouble and basically look like an idiot. The main thing is that even though I had time to do whatever I wanted, I did not have what I now know I needed back then…..something to keep me occupied to allow me to move forward with life. This is exactly what mom tried to tell me for all these years but unfortunately, I never really listened. Well now I know she was right, (as moms usually are,) and now I don’t have time to reminisce about the past. This has afforded me the ability to move forward in life. It’s an honest thing I’m doing. I’m really enjoying this. It’s something I could very easily do until the day I die. I love doing this. It has given me a purpose in life. Looking back, I can honestly say that one of my biggest regrets is that I should have pursued this earlier in life. This might have made things easier on me. Having said that, I least I have it now and it’s something I never want to lose.
