I could sit here for days, weeks, months, years, and even centuries listing off all of the kind things mom and my uncle have done for me especially in the last two weeks . Unfortunately I don’t have the time. I would have to think long and hard about one particular thing to discuss for the purposes of this entry. It’s no secret that my uncle has gone above and beyond what is due for me especially at my age. I always make the comment that he doesn’t know how to be selfish and how he tends to put everybody before himself. In the last few years he has sent me things down in the mail, (snacks, essential items,) ETC while always being emotionally available to me and to mom when we need him. I’ve also been sent a lot of money from him, (even when it wasn’t a holiday,) and some items of clothing, ETC. I’ve made the comment at times that he deserves a gold medal for his efforts in pleasing both me and my best friend over the years.
If this wasn’t enough, I feel like mom has bent over backwards to help me over the years. She has given me the tools on how to eat right and live right in general while being marketed by me as “my go to person” for anything I need or want. I will say that this has mixed results as sometimes I can get on her nerves with my constant calls and the supposed need for her input in certain aspects of my life. There was a time when I would wake up every morning and call her off the hook even going as far as to put my own needs on the back burner until I talk to her. She knew that this wasn’t going to work for me and she always wanted me to have as steady routine in the morning. This is one where I get up, take a shower ETC all without calling her 100 times beforehand when I know she isn’t working, (but sometimes even when she is working. This has also happened.) It used to get on my nerves if something had to happen before I talked to her. I would worry myself to the point of getting sick that something had happened to her and would often find myself rushing through my morning routine just to talk to her. At times, I was even unintentionally rude to the staff just for doing their job if it was a day in which I have not talked to her before my service was provided.
Somewhere down the line, (in fact just a few weeks ago,) this changed. After months of listening to me complain that she has to be first, that everybody can go somewhere, (usually I meant some sort of curse word,) and that nobody matters more than she does ETC, and trying to reply that I need to put myself first and care about what they need to do, I now have a steady morning routine which includes a shower at a set time, (to coincide with when they’re supposed to come. I’m always ready for them on time and always in a good mood where I wasn’t previously and I would treat them as if they were intruders especially when I tried to sleep right until they showed up. This was a big transition for me but I think I have settled into it. The key point of this is that who was responsible for ensuring that I established a routine that was to everybody’s liking? Mom was responsible. She basically opened my eyes to the fact that the way I was living wasn’t really living it was being lazy. By the way lazy is a word that she used to describe me multiple times during our countless arguments regarding this topic. There was the lazy thing and then there was the age old cliche of “Don’t be a loser like your father” that she also used to warn me about potentially becoming too. My father is not the kind of person anybody would aspire or want to be like. This is all I’m going to say in regards to him. I will say that not many people admire him especially mom and myself as well. She was basically responsible for forcing me to have my own life and these days, I do. Most mornings, I don’t even talk to mom until after I start my morning routine. I will send her a text saying that I will call her once everything is done and that’s it. I also notice that she is less annoyed when talking to me, (at least when I stay within the parameters of our set call time,) since I started this new routine. Also I notice a difference in the way I feel overall. Generally I’m much more cheerful and I feel better as a person since this started. I think this is the way it should have been all along. I will say this again. Mom is the one responsible for opening my eyes to what real life is. Nobody else can say they’ve done that and if this wasn’t enough, I could go on and on about millions of other things that she’s had to contend with where I’m concerned before this routine was established. Just like when she was trying to get me on a routine, it took a lot of work and convincing for me to get myself out of problems I was having ETC and she has always helped me. To put it simple, she never gave up on me even when things were tough and annoying and where others would have. She always knew I could be a better person than I was previously.
This is the kindest thing anyone has done for me. She never gave up on me no matter how difficult I was to deal with. I’m a better person because of this.
Also, my uncle is great too!
