As everybody knows, I’m a big movie guy. With that being said, there’s a lot of actors I admire. Some of these actors include Jack Black, Steve Martin, Will Ferrell, and Tom Hanks among others that I cannot think of right now. However, there’s a lot more actors I’m fond of. I would say that I’m a fan of the ones who are listed as comedians. However, in some movies I’ve seen these actors in, they have played characters that I believe describe me perfectly in real life. I’ve seen every one of the Toy Story movies including number 5 and while I praise Tom Hanks for acting as Woody, I would have to say that the character he plays that I mostly relate to would be Otto Anderson from “A Man Called Otto.” Every day I find something new to complain about as he did in this movie. To show you how much I can relate to this character, in the opening scene of the movie, he has a customer service issue with the belief that he was overcharged for an item he was trying to purchase. Now most of my issues stem from poor customer service be it in some stores with the same issue, (me believing I was charged more than I should have been for something or just a general belief that something is more expensive than it should be,) or issues with being put on hold with a place of business for too long. One thing I’ve never done is call someone out for what I believe to have been service that was poor or unfair. To be honest, my mom would have a few choice words for me if that was to happen which would most likely include a suggestion to not go out if I don’t like something ETC. However I do know that she would not condone complaints about services unless they were warranted. Well Otto definitely brought up his complaint in the movie, (actually in the same manner that I would,) and this kept happening at various points throughout the movie. Therefore, I’m a fan of this movie in particular for his accurate portrayal of me in real life.
Having said that, most of my issues stem from a different kind of customer service. I have a lot of issues related to most of my travel and this used to get on my nerves until a couple of years ago when mom finally intervened, (I wrote a post about this through the answer to another question on the site so therefore I will not get into detail,) and this brings about a comparison of me towards Steve Martin in “Planes Trains and Automobiles” where his travel issues were met with comedy rather than anger where mine had initially been met with just anger. After watching this film and being introduced to new ways of handling travel related issues through his character in the film, I learned to just accept the delays as he did in the movie. When I have been faced with a bus being late, (which is the main cause of my travel problems,) I think back to this film and remember how Steve Martin handled it. This helps me get through the otherwise unbearable stress of having to wait longer than usual sometimes and leaves me with the thought that I’m just happy to be able to get around.
So to answer the question, I think there are two characters who I can relate to. They are ones played by Steve Martin and Tom Hanks.
